As locals, we often don’t consider the “destination” label of LBI from a far enough step back. For the most part, cars are signs of relatively nearby travelers: North Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, etc. Sure, we can count the number of extra cars on the bridge during a summer mid morning. We can also see the streets’ parking spaces fill and empty as the season passes us by.
However, the visitor who fares the airport, hops a plane, then rents a car to get here is considered less often in the observation. This group is another whole category of visitors. They’ve aligned so many things just to get here. It reminds us that Long Beach Island is a nationally known spot for a reason; it is truly unlike any other place. It also reminds us that, for those who do brave the extra travel steps to get here, LBI is always going to be a resounding “yes.”
For Maura, Rhett, and just about one hundred guests, trekking to Long Beach Island to celebrate a beautiful union, dance with family and friends, and enjoy the evening salt air, was in that “yes, absolutely” category. People from all over the country travelled to join them this past September. Everything about the day felt just right.
